Here’s what happens:
You show your audience an ordinary quarter and a classic arcade token and tell them that you will scam them like you used to scam the arcades in high school. They take both coins into their hand and hold them in a tight fist. You remove the arcade token from their hand, leaving them firmly holding onto the quarter. You ask them to tell you what coin remains in their hand; you’d even bet them a game of Galaga if they got it right. They say the quarter, but that’s when you remind them that this is a scam.
